Helping business leaders make sense of technology

Welcome — I’m Hatef Yamini, and I created The Nontechnical CIO to help business leaders, owners, and executives understand technology without the jargon.

I’ve spent over a decade in technology and cybersecurity leadership, and one thing became clear: too many small and mid-size businesses are making bad technology decisions because IT and cybersecurity can be overwhelming. My goal is to change that — one clear conversation at a time.

The Idea Behind "The Non-Technical CIO"

You don’t have to be a technologist to lead a tech-driven company.

But you do need clarity — enough to ask the right questions, make informed decisions, and guide your organization confidently.

That’s what The Nontechnical CIO is about:

  • Demystifying cybersecurity and IT so you can focus on business outcomes.
  • Explaining complex concepts in plain English.
  • Connecting strategy and technology — the way a great CIO should.

Who This Site Is For

  • Small and mid-size business owners who want to manage risk and growth responsibly.
  • Nontechnical executives — CEOs, COOs, CFOs — who want to speak the language of technology.
  • IT professionals who want to learn how to communicate better with leadership.

If you’ve ever thought, “I just want someone to explain this stuff clearly,” — this is for you.

What You’ll Find Here

Each week, I share:

  • Short, plain-English essays on cybersecurity, IT, and leadership
  • Practical frameworks drawn from CISSP, NIST, and real-world experience
  • Occasional video explainers on YouTube
  • Templates and checklists you can actually use in your business

You won’t find hype or vendor fluff here — just useful ideas, explained clearly.

About Me

I’m a business and technology leader with a background in cybersecurity strategy, IT operations, and sales enablement. I’m currently preparing for the CISSP certification, and I use that process as fuel for this blog — translating advanced concepts into something anyone can apply.

Outside of work, I’m a husband, father, and lifelong learner who believes wisdom compounds — in business, in leadership, and in life.
